Virgin Prepaid MasterCard is an ideal prepaid card for individuals with little or no credit. It works just like a credit card only you have to load funds into it before spending. It is one of the few prepaid cards out there that actually cares how much you spend. Card members who spend frequently and those who just want something on which to save up cash for the rainy day can apply for the same card product under different tariffs. The 'Pay As You Go' tariff is great for individuals who plan to spend a little while the 'Pay Monthly' tariff encourages frequent spending with no transaction fee. Card members who aren't sure of their spending habit during the application process may transfer from one tariff to another at no extra cost once every four months.
It costs £9.95 to purchase a prepaid card. Applicants are required to present an ID but a bank account is not required. Individuals with all forms of credit may apply as no credit check is carried out. A monthly fee may be deducted from the card account based on the tariff plan in action.
Card Members enjoy specially negotiated discounts whenever purchasing from participating merchants and retailers. Retail stores like Currys, Debenhams, Sainsbury's, B&Q and Boots all offer a form of discounts to customers paying with a Virgin Prepaid MasterCard. There's up to 20% off on purchases at Virgin Experiences, 10% discounts with Virgin Holidays, a free month when subscribed to either of Virgin Media, and Virgin Active.
There are a number of ways through which to upload funds directly into the card account. Depositing by debit card, direct transfer, and Post Office cost £0. Uploading via PayPoint costs 2.75% and credit cards cost 2.5% with a £2 minimum fee.
Interested individuals are not required to have any form of credit. So in a way, this card guarantees approval once a full ID check is carried out. In a few cases where an ID check can't be carried out, a card may be issued but the maximum spend is reduced to £1,600 with up to £600 cashable at ATM machines. A member may upgrade he's spending limit at anytime by providing documents to allow the card issuers carry out a full ID check.
