Vanquis Bank was founded in 2003 as subsidiary of Provincial Financial. It was created to take care of the credit card division of Provincial Financial and remains within its initial line of business till date. Provincial Finance, its parent company was incorporated in 1880 by Joshua Kelley Waddilove an insurance agent. The company was listed on the stock exchange in 1962 and changed its name from Provident Clothing and Supply Co Ltd to Provincial Financial plc. The company launched overseas operations providing home credit service to customers in numerous countries outside the UK in the 1990s. A demerger in 2007 made room for its international division to operate as a separate company as International Personal Finance plc.
