NatWest, short for National Westminster Bank Plc was incorporated in 1968 as a result of the merger between the National Provincial Bank and Westminster Bank. As at then both merging banks were amongst UK's top four clearing banks. In 2000, National Westminster Bank agreed to a take-over by the Royal Bank of Scotland in a transaction known as the largest merger in UK history. NatWest was subsequently delisted from the London Stock Exchange and became a wholly owned subsidiary of the Royal Bank of Scotland group. National Westminster Bank provides a range of banking and insurance services to customers in the UK where it has more than 7.5 million customers.
